The math has already been done on the effect of this nerf. At worst it should be <3% dps decrease, and that is only on heavy single target fights. On AoE fights you will likely not notice much of a difference at all. Assuming correct gearing, spec, rotation, gemming, and forging that is.
1) First take the difference between your 4.0.6 dps and 4.1 dps and divide it by your 4.0.6 dps.
- a) Is this number >.2? If so you need to stop right there because your numbers are flawed. A disparity this large would only be possible if you were only using starsurge.
b) Is the number >.075? If so there is probably something wrong with your gear, enchants, or spec that caused such a difference. Many druids would be happy to look through them and offer improvements if this is the case.
c) Is the number <.075? If so this is expected due to RNG and other factors. If you are using raid parses this could also be affected by the DI nerf.
2) Where are you getting your numbers? Are you using dummies, or raid bosses?
- a) If using dummies it is possible that your numbers were skewed by FMs or DIs tossed on you to improve the caster's dps.
b) If using raid bosses, which ones? Halfus and Chim are both bad indicators of dps due to their mechanics. The same with ODS depending on where the pools drop and what bosses they are up with.
c) If using raid bosses, are you using the same bosses? DPS can vary considerably from one boss to the next and it is unreliable to compare different bosses.
3) Were your parses obtained with the same amount of buffs each time. This is very important and even lacking one buff could explain the difference.
4) Finally, do you have logs? If you have logged data showing a huge dps loss on the same bosses pre-4.1 and post 4.1 then you're claim will be taken more seriously instead of people just regarding you as stupid.
Please read through this before posting something ridiculous like a 5k dps decrease.
Don't forget the Dark Intent change!
Edit: er, you mentioned it briefly, but here it is for people who saw a larger drop than expected (though it certainly wouldn't account for something like a 5k drop):
Dark Intent: The friendly target of this ability now receives 1% (stacking 3 times to 3%) periodic spell damage and healing bonus instead of 3% (stacking 3 times to 9%). The casting Warlock still receives 3% (stacking 3 times to 9%).
omg liek i sawl a 50k dps drop aftr teh patch and blizz h8s droods n shuld buf us tonz
Seriously though, great post on what to do to back up your claims about the actual affects of this adjustment. I napkin mathed mine a while ago and it ended up being like 350-400 dps loss for me, so I'm not worried about it. Won't get any actual numbers until tomorrow night though. Was bear last night for our one boss kill.
Looks like I posted this a little early. Anyways I though I would post my experience from my guild's 25 BoT run on Tuesday, as a tornado hit my campus on Wednesday and I missed our last two raids :(. We didn't have logs running or posted so I will just say how I ranked and who beat me.
HM Halfus: 2nd on overall damage, beat by a lock who was solely in charge of whelps while I was on single target.
Valiona and Theralion: 2nd on overall damage, beat by a spriest.
Ascendant Council: 1st on overall damage, barely beating out two spriests.
Cho'Gall: 2nd on overall damage: beat by a spriest.
This was comparable to how I was doing before the nerf, if not better in some cases due to good RNG vs bad RNG. The only gear change that I made going into the patch was swapping bell for mirror when it finally dropped.
In short the sky isn't falling, and if you say it is you are being silly.
Thumbs up, good post :) While you mention specifics for moonkin, "chicken littles" are the same regardless of spec and class as we've seen in the past.

MY DPS WENT UP CUZ TRICKS CHANGE (and I had di this week)
And I know going by Sinestra attempts are literally THE most accurate thing to go by, anyways, I support this thread. I hope people look at it before crying about buffs/nerfs.
